This is the weblog of Jason McIntyre, writer, editor, budding author. 1977 - Born in Queens, NY 1986 - Third grade teacher, Mrs. Wargo, says at Back to School night to Jason's parents: "Jason is very good at arguing. He's going to make a good lawyer." 1987 - Wins Fourth Grade Spelling Bee. Later, in the cafeteria, he rubs it in the face of the runner up, Kristy. She cries. 1990 - Wins Future Business Leaders of America first place Regional award for a project on Environmental Law. A career arguing beckons. 1990 - Has first girlfriend. Interest in school wanes; interest in females peaks and mysteriously never ceases. 1991 - Breaks Springfield Youth Club basketball career assist record. Retires. Goggles are hung up for good. 1993 - Joins school newspaper. Writing career takes off. Parents crushed their son no longer wants to be a lawyer. 1994 - Lands first newspaper internship at weekly. 1996 - Pens first column in college newspaper. It is during his blond phase, and the column is titled, "Natural Blonde." Blonde phase lasts approximately one month, until he realizes that as a brown kid, the blonde look is silly. 1998 - Writes most talked about column in James Madison University history. It centers around this novel concept: If you are big enough to wear a wifebeater to the campus gym (which was disguised as a social gathering place), should you? 1999 - Rings in the New Millennium in Las Vegas. Outside of one hot streak at the roulette table, weekend winnings are non-existent. 2000 - Pens memorable column about everybody's favorite Cuban, Elian Gonzalez. Nearly gets in two fights at a bar over the story. 2002 - Becomes an award-winning journalist courtesy of the Garden State Association of Black Journalists. 2003 - Moves to New York. Phase one of life plan is complete. 2004 - Rings in the New Year in South Beach. It's fun, but all he can think about is the previous week, and the terrifying "Jaws" ride at Universal Studios. 2005 - With much prodding from friends, family, and pastor, Jason finally learns how to blow his nose. |
